FatCow was founded in 1998 in Albuquerque, New Mexico where it is still based today.  The concept behind FatCow is to provide high quality web hosting and e-commerce solutions for individuals and businesses.  Now, in their 14th year of business they have a customer base that spans 90 countries and tens of thousands of websites.

In 2009 FatCow took a big step forward by becoming one of the first hosting companies to go completely ‘green’.  All of FatCow’s offices and data centers are powered by clean and efficient wind energy. By investing in wind energy FatCow hopes to make a difference and set an example for the rest of the webhosting and technology industry to follow.

That same year FatCow made the bold decision to remove storage and transfer limits for their customers.  They also instituted unlimited email accounts and mailbox storage space.  At a time when most competitors were charging by the gigabyte this was seen as a bold move. However, as storage costs decreased it was only fair to pass these savings onto the end user.  In 2010 FatCow integrated SEO tools into their custom control panel so webmasters could have better control over how their content appeared in search engine results.

Over the past 14 years FatCow has been the recipient of numerous rewards and accolades.  In 2006 they broke out into the mainstream by winning the Best Shared Host Award.  Then in 2009 they snagged several top awards including: 2009 Host of the Year and Low Cost Host of 2009.  The most recent award received was the MBRW Second Semi-Annual 2010 Hosting Award for the outstanding customer service and reliability of the FatCow web hosting service.

In the highly competitive web hosting marketplace, it’s nice to know that a company like FatCow is in this industry for the long haul.  Their history shows that this is not a company afraid of change.  Each year they offer their customers something better than the year before.  For more information on FatCow and discounts on their web hosting packages check out the other FatCow articles and reviews on this site.
